No One Should Travel Alone
Life’s journey can be exhilarating, yet daunting. Everyone needs support from time to time. Some individuals find therapy and coaching reassuring during times of uncertainty. As individuals we might suffer from chronic pain, flashbacks and trauma-related distress; painful moods such as depression, anxiety, boredom, anger or grief; or imbalances in our sleep, diet, or substance usage. We might have concerns about work, or other relationships. We may need a companion on the journey to help us develop what psychologists and sages sometimes refer to as our authentic selves, our inner witness and our higher selves. Psychiatrist and researcher, Dr Bessel van der Kolk, puts it this way: “How we get along with ourselves depends largely on our internal leadership skills-how well we listen to our different parts, make sure they feel taken care of, and keep them from sabotaging one another.”
Psychotherapy is a supportive process to enhance understanding, confidence, relationships, and general health. During therapy you may find it useful to to set new goals and intentions and return to the essence of who you really are. Our neurology is primed to respond to safe, positive relationships. When we enjoy such a relationship in therapy we discover effective tools to resolve many of the debilitating things that suck the joy out of our lives.
You don’t need to wait to arrive at some magic time in the future. Your journey can be joyful in the moment, today. The best way to experience a richer, fuller life is to ensure that you are not going it alone.
